Behind the List: How Denver grew as a software center

Mike Gellman, founder and CEO of Denver’s SpireMedia, remembers when software coding in the area was a nerdy domain left largely to hobbyists. Groups of people would meet sometimes at hotel conference rooms in Aurora or Northglenn, but there wasn’t anything that could be considered an industry.

That started changing in mid-1990s. The Internet’s rise drew broader interest in writing code.
